Thanksgiving Prayer Thank You, God, for all the wonderful blessings, for our daily meals, for clean drinking water and for sunlight, and for the cool breeze. I'm thankful for my family, my friends and my health. I'm thankful for my friends, to love and be loved. Thank You for this great country and for the freedom it offers. I'm thankful to be alive and praise You for all these wonders. I'm thankful that You have been so gracious to give Your only Son to us who gave his life and bore the unbearable for us sinners. On this Thanksgiving Day, I take the opportunity to give thanks for countless other things You provide us with on a daily basis. Amen. On a hopeful note, the parties that are meeting provincially have agreed to continue bargaining this Friday and over the weekend to try and avoid strike action. If a strike by CUPE does occur, all Ottawa Catholic schools (K-12) will be closed for students as of Monday, October 7th. This decision came about following careful deliberation. CUPE represents approximately 1300 full-time employees and nearly 1000 casual workers in the Ottawa Catholic School Board. We did not feel we could safely operate our schools without their services. CUPE employees include educational assistants (EAs), early childhood educators (ECEs), office administrators (OAs), library technicians, learning technology technicians, full-time adult ESL Instructors and a number of central Board staff. We are committed to keeping you informed. Our Board and school websites will be the location for public announcements and updates regarding the labour disruption. As soon as we have an update, a second message will be sent to parents on Sunday evening using School Messenger to update you regarding the outcome of the provincial negotiations. Thank you for your continued prayers, patience, and understanding. Strike impact on our services and facilities If, as of Sunday night, the parties do not settle, services taking place in our schools will be affected as follows: Classes and TransportationCommunity Use of SchoolsChild care and before and after school careAll Extended Day Programs (EDP) in our schools and all child care programs for Kindergarten and school age children operated by the Ottawa Catholic Child Care Corporation will be cancelled. Parents will be reimbursed for any closures exceeding 3 days annually. All Early ON Centre programming will be closed. All Toddler and Preschool programs operated by the Ottawa Catholic Child Care Corporation will not be affected and will continue to operate normally.
