Week at a Glance

Okay St. Luke’s Super ECO Heros!  Let's take care of our planet while taking care of our school environment at the same time. This week is Waste Reduction Week!

Monday, November 5th

  • Reduce, Reuse and Recycle paper.  Use less paper and go digital, find ways to reuse paper that still has a blank side and recycle paper that is well used.

Tuesday, November 6

  • Staff are wearing jeans today in support of United Way

  • Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Plastics.   What are ways we can skip using plastic bags, plastic straws, consume fewer plastic packaged items?

Wednesday, November 7

  • Ottawa 67’s game (Grades 3-6)

  • Pizza lunch

  • Recycle  Batteries and Cans. Metals are reused many times to make new metal items.

Thursday, November 8

  • Girl’s Volleyball Tournament

  • Food waste.  Go for litterless lunch as a way to increase the quality of lunches.  Talk about composting to reduce food waste in the garbage.

Friday, November 9

  • Remembrance Day liturgy 10:45 am

  • Swim to Survive (Mrs. Kelly’s Class)

  • Subway lunch

  • Popcorn Friday! (2$ per bag)

  • Go for the Glass because they have class!  Fun glass fact:  Glass can be crushed and reused to make new glass infinitely without losing its integrity.  Wisest container choices, environmentally speaking, are glass.

Remembrance Day Prayer

“God our Father, Your Son Jesus gave up His life to free us from the power of sin and death. He showed us that the greatest love is in giving up one’s life for others. Today, we remember those who fought and died for our freedom. We ask You to bless and console them together with their families. Help us to understand the sacrifices they made in leaving their loved ones to face the horrors of war. May we never forget their generosity. May Your Holy Spirit give us the courage to resist evil in all its forms and show us how to be peacemakers through prayer and action, lest we forget those who fought, suffered and died that we might have the freedom and peace we enjoy today. We ask this through Christ, our Lord.”

Please join us on Friday, November 9th for our Remembrance Day liturgy at 10:45 am. All are welcome to attend.

Poppy stickers and pins will be distributed to all students prior to the ceremony. A donation to the Canadian Legion would be greatly appreciated. Students are asked to wear red or white to school that day. We would like to extend an invitation to all servicemen and women who are currently serving or retired, to be our distinguished guests at the Remembrance Day Liturgy. If you or a family member would like to be our special guest, please call the school at 613-825-2520 to rsvp. This will allow us to welcome all in a special way.

Thank You!

On behalf of the staff, we would like to extend a heartfelt THANK YOU to our wonderful parent volunteers and CSC for organizing another Teacher Appreciation Breakfast. In addition, THANK YOU to the many parents and guardians who contributed to the delicious breakfast. We truly appreciate your kindness. It was a great way to start the week. Thank you kindly.

We would also like to thank all of the parent support for our Halloween Costume day. With your charitable donations we were able to raise over $200.00 in support of the United Way.  Way to go St.Luke’s!

Interviews (Kindergarten - Grade 6) will take place on Thursday, November 15th. A detailed letter along with booking instructions will be sent out next week.

The tradition continues! In an effort to raise awareness and a donation toward men’s health issues, St.Luke is taking on its 7th annual Movember fundraising campaign! Five lucky classes will earn the right to dye and shave the St. Luke Mo Bros new moustaches. This will take place at the end of the month. More information to follow! Thank you in advance for your support of our Movember initiative! Grow it! Dye it! Shave it! The following staff members will be participating in this year’s Movember: Mr. Bruno, Mr. Risto, Mr. Faux, Mr. Pratt, Mr. Mike and Mr. McCarthy.
