Dear Parents and Guardians,

I am writing to provide clarification on the proposed labour disruptions scheduled for next week in Ottawa. I understand this a confusing and stressful time in education in our province.

All Ottawa Catholic School Board Schools are OPEN on Monday, January 20, 2020. Buses are running for OCSB students and all regular school day activities will continue as planned.

However, I do encourage you to make alternative child care arrangements (if required) for Tuesday, January 21, 2020. Our teachers are members of the Ontario English Catholic Teachers' Association (OECTA) and they are scheduled to participate in a one-day provincial strike.

This means ALL OCSB Elementary, Intermediate and Secondary schools will be CLOSED and all student transportation will be cancelled for OCSB students. Classes will resume the next day January 22, 2020. There is NO CHANGE to the high school exam schedule. High School exams will take place between January 23 through January 29, 2020.

The one day closure also includes all regular school day activities, Co-op, OYAP, dual credit, home instruction, extra-curricular activities, field trips, and clubs.

Before and after school programs will be cancelled for the day. However, all Ottawa Catholic Child Care Corporation Toddler and Preschool programs and all EarlyOn Centres will be open and will operate according to their regular hours.

Parents who wish to apply for government reimbursement for child care costs related to labour unrest may direct their questions to the Support for Parents Helpline at 888-444-3770 or  https://www.iaccess.gov.on.ca/ParentAppWeb/parentapp/index.xhtml

We remain hopeful that an agreement can be reached at the central bargaining table when they reconvene. We will continue to provide timely labour updates through our website, social media channels and via School Messenger to keep you up-to-date regarding labour negotiations.
