MASC-Artist in Residence Program

Artist-in-Residence and Cross-Disciplinary programs provide hands-on learning opportunities for students through three, five and ten-day artist-led projects.

This year, St. Luke will be welcoming Claudia Salguero. She will be guiding students from Kindergarten through grade six as they transform 30 old tires into beautiful planters which will be placed in our front yard of the school. Be sure to keep an eye out for the planters in the coming weeks!

____________________________________________________________________Dear Parents/Guardians,

A special education teacher with the Ottawa Catholic School Board has been nominated for the Norwegian Cruise Contest. This nomination has been greatly supported in the past 2 weeks throughout our school board, the city of Ottawa and it has gained global support on social media. Nancy's story is a journey of courage, hope and optimism. In her role as Itinerant Resource teacher with the OCSB Student Services and Special Education Dept, she is a champion of accessibility, inclusion and assistive technology. We invite you to read the nomination below and to cast your vote here: https://goo.gl/LCrFfK

Submission for Nancy Kawaja: #Nancy4NorwegianJOY

As a special education teacher, Nancy lives her true passion, by supporting students from JK-Gr. 12 across all areas of ability, (learning disabilities, autism, visual impairment and physical/intellectual disabilities). She supports her colleagues in finding innovative ways to create access for students with complex learning needs. Nancy shares her joy of teaching/learning for ALL students by moderating twitter chats, hosting webinars and speaking at conferences to raise awareness about the power of accessibility and inclusion. She inspires students/staff to harness the power of "assistive technology" to change lives.

6 months ago she underwent neurosurgery. A complication left her without feeling in her lower left leg. An avid runner and CrossFitter, Nancy was left learning to use a wheelchair for mobility. (As a single mom and caregiver to her own mom), she approaches each day with strength and optimism, finding ways to access ability instead of seeing new life circumstances as a disability. She chooses to share her journey with others, albeit personal and difficult at times, so that she can give voice to the importance of accessibility, inclusion. Nancy's passion, innovation, courage and strength inspire others every day.

We are coming together as a community to spread some JOY!

"Joy is prayer; Joy is strength; Joy is love; Joy is a net of love by which you can catch souls."  Mother Teresa
