A Summer Prayer

“Father, Creator of all, thank You for summer. Thank You for the warmth of the sun and the increased daylight. Thank You for the beauty I see all around me and for the opportunity to be outside and enjoy Your creation. Thank You for the increased time I have to be with my friends and family, and for the more casual pace of the summer season. Draw me closer to You this summer. Teach me how I can pray no matter where I am or what I am doing. Warm my soul with the awareness of Your presence and light my path with Your word and counsel. As I enjoy Your creation, create in me a pure heart and a hunger and a thirst for You. Amen”

A Note from Mr. Risto

It is hard to believe that this is our final newsletter of the 2017-2018 school year. Once again, it has been a wonderful year of learning and growing as a St. Luke school community. On behalf of the staff here at St. Luke, we would like to take this opportunity to extend our heartfelt appreciation for your support, partnership and dedication towards your child/children’s education. As the year comes to a close, we would like to congratulate all of our students on a successful year and wish you and your families a restful and fun-filled summer vacation!

As the 2017-2018 year winds down, the preparations for the 2018-2019 year get into full swing. To all of our families who are leaving St. Luke, we wish you all the best especially to our grade six students who will be moving on to attend high school next year. If you are moving and not attending St. Luke next year, we encourage you to notify our office administrator, Mrs. Pezoulas, if you have not already done so, as this assists with our planning for next year.

June is a very busy month in our school with various field trips and activities scheduled including our End-of-the-Year Mass and End-Of-Year Ceremony for our Grade 6 students. Please visit our WEBSITE and review the calendar for all upcoming school activities, dates and times.

I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank our Catholic School Council and parent volunteers for being an integral part of enhancing the student experience at St. Luke. This year’s CSC was able to directly impact the student learning  by allocating funds from school fundraising initiatives, including lunch programs, to support students and teachers by helping offset the many costs for field trips, busing and school learning initiatives. Thank you CSC and parents for your ongoing support, time and dedication to our school. We are truly grateful and humbled for all that you do for our students! The CSC will be leading the way by capping off another school year with the Family Fun Fair evening for St.Luke and greater Barrhaven Community on Monday, June 18th. With great effort and ongoing support from parents at St.Luke, we are once again blessed that there will be no additional cost to families. This is our way to say thank you for an amazing school year! We kindly ask that you donate to the Barrhaven Food Cupboard by bringing a non perishable item to school during the month of June or to the Family Fun Fair evening.  In addition, we would also like to thank the many volunteers who have generously offered their time over the past few months and most recently with your EQAO support for our students in grade 3 and grade 6 . Volunteers are a key component and valued immensely by all.

June always brings us farewells and new “welcomes” to St. Luke School. We would like to say a very well-deserved thank you and best wishes to Mrs. O’Neil-Farago,  Mrs. DiGaetano and Mme. Bilder who will be leaving us at the end of June. As many of you know, their expertise and love for the school and the students will be greatly missed. We also say a well-deserved thank you to Ms. Delorme, Ms. Potvin and Mme. Olive for their dedication and the positive impact they have had on our students this year. We wish them all the best on their new endeavors. We also say thank you to Mrs. Vorobej, Mr. Wilson and  Mrs. Bower, we wish you all the very best at your new schools!

We are excited to be welcoming our newest teachers, Mrs. Amy Agostini and Mme. Christine Cote to our St. Luke community. Mrs. Agostini and Mme. Cote bring a wealth of experience and a love for teaching. They will be joining our school in September. Please warmly welcome them when you see them in the hallways or out in the yard. As we are currently staffing our school for next year, we will also be planning classes and class lists. Our class lists will be ready on the first day of school. Careful consideration goes into making our classes to ensure a positive learning and working environment for all.

On behalf of all of our staff, it has been a pleasure to work with all of you this school year and we look forward to seeing you at St. Luke next year. We wish you a restful and safe summer vacation.

Yours in Education, Chris Risto
